365 Calendar Challenge: January

 calendar journal january
Knowing I’d have little to no time for art or journalling (written or visual) at the beginning of this year, but still wanting to keep some sort of a record of events, I jumped at the chance to take part in Kate’s 365 Calendar Challenge for 2011. Making one background a month and doing a tiny bit of journalling each day seemed perfectly doable even with a newborn. I’m happy to say I think I was right. I made a start on the February background before Kirby was born though, just in case. I’m happy I did that too!

The background was created using water soluble crayons, acrylics and oil pastels. The image of the stork is from the Graphics Fairy and the caterpillar is from clipart online. If you’re wondering about the latter it’s because Aoife goes around telling everyone that we don’t have a very hungry caterpillar, we have a very hungry Kirby! Ain’t that the truth! This whole spread is pretty much about the trials and tribulations of breastfeeding.

  1. Wow, I can’t believe you can keep on top of this challenge with a new baby to take crae of!
Well done 🙂 It looks fab too, and what a great way to remember the early days with Kirby. Hmmm, the trials and tribulations of breastfeeding – I remember it well! It’s not as easy as you think it’s going to be is it?! Good luck with it, and a big hug for the new baby x

  11. Congratulations on the new addition. Welcome Kirby! Love the calendar journal idea too. With a four year old and an 8 month old, it can be difficult to get to the loo unaccompanied, let alone create something! Well done you.
My word for the year is ‘Nourish’ and I am opening out the nourishment to all the people who visit my blog. Just do a weekly post on what is nourishing you right now (it can be anything) and take a photo (if you want) and then link it back to my blog. Leave me a comment so that people can come and see what is nourishing each other. Feel free to join in.

  12. Thank you for your message and so glad to see you around and about again – hope Mommyhood is treating you well, xoxo
