Kids crafts: fun, personalised wrapping paper

I love easel paper and always have a roll or two in my craft room. It’ so handy. I use it all the time. I cut off large pieces for the kids to draw on, I roll it out on the craft table when we’re drawing with markers or painting to catch the spills (then use that paper for collages in our art journals and scrapbooks), and I wrap the majority of our presents in it. Presents don’t look boring, because I add interest with pretty ribbons, tags, charms, and tassels.

Wrapping paper can be expensive, especially the kids ones, but kids can easily make their own too.

Aoife was heading off to a party on Saturday (seriously, that girl has a better social life than I do!)  and made this personalised wrapping paper for her friend that morning in about 10-15 minutes. She used her new blo pen set, which made it even more exciting.

Supplies:

* Roll of easel paper
* Scissors
* 5 or more markers in your chosen colours
* Children’s stencil
* Roll of washi tape

Instructions:

1. Cut off enough easel paper to fully cover your present. Lay your paper on a clean, flat surface suitable for crafting. You may have to weigh down the corners so they don’t curl.

2. Lay the stencil in the centre of the piece of paper and colour in the open parts of the image with your markers.

3. Write happy birthday all over the paper using the markers.

4. Vary the colours and positions of the words for a more interesting look.

5. Fill in the gaps with stars, hearts, and any other doodles you may want to do. Keep changing colours.

6. You now have a fun, personalised wrapping paper.

7. Wrap your present in the paper and use strips of colourful washi tape to stick down the edges.

8. And there you have it- a fun, personalised, kid-friendly wrapping paper. Enjoy!
