I treasure the early hour I have to myself before the rest of the family and neighbourhood wake up. It is like a mini-retreat. Quiet calm surrounds me, there’s no pressure to do or be, I can just quietly and peacefully set up the day. I use the time to think, journal, and pray. It focuses my mind and keeps me sane through the chaos of everyday life (well, mostly anyway).
This deceptively simple journal page came to me over the course of three mornings and has been adapted in my art journal. I decided against adding lettering to the seen page, preferring instead to let the symbols speak for themselves. Read into it what you may. I know what it means to me. There’s a whole lot of hidden journalling under the thick layer of black paint to prove it.
To make the it, I first journalled on a gessoed spread, and covered it all in black paint. Once dry, I drew around a jar lid with a pencil on both sides of the spread, and coloured in the circles with gold acrylic paint. I went over the edges of the spread with the same paint, then carefully painted on the gold swirls with an old, hardened fine brush. I drew the windmill and bird on a separate piece of paper, filled them in with black marker, cut them out, and glued them down in the centre of the gold circles. Lastly, I went around the edges of the circles and the centre of the swirls with my glue pen and added red glitter.
How do you create peace in your day?
Oh, this is beautiful! I love the bold black and those swirls, xoxo
Simply beautiful! The touches of red are perfect and I love the swirls. Working on black is so much fun and it makes all the colors more intense.
Mornin’ (evenin’ your time!) – PLEASE do check it out – even if you don’t do the work (there are 900 people – she’s not checking work) it is so worth signing up so that you can see the amazing video’s and free pdf files. It is 4 weeks and only 4 projects (one of which is a journal page) but again, even if it’s just for the videos, its sooo worth it. I am loving it! xoxoxo
Hi! What a lovely journal page. Thanks for visiting my blog and commenting :). Congratulations on your coming baby!
I wish I could manage to get up early and start my day before my daughter wakes. We tend to wake up together, normally with her face pressed against mine smiling which is lovely but I’d probably have a more productive day if I got up earlier and prepared a bit better. I tend to find my peaceful time at night after everyone else is asleep and the house is quiet and dark. I’ve always been a night owl and feel most creative and yet peaceful late at night.
yes, hidden and personal journaling lurking in the underlying layers of a journal entry! I do that too…what a great way to work through life’s little challenges!!!!
so we have that in common…and the ‘dried out marker thing!’…lol
kindred, that’s what!
I create to sooth and find calm…and as a bonus…it is a productive way to have fun!
ciao bella Carin! Thanks so much for coming by to see me!
CREATIVE CARMELINA
Hi there!
I wanted to thank you once again and let you know that I posted about you today, xoxxo
I’m not good in the early mornings.. It’s my favourite time of the day.. but I always seem to over sleep.
Jo xx
Carin – are you sharing the sex of your new baby? I would love to know – I have a little something for a girl I would like to give you if that is the case . . . xo
Thanks!
I don’t usually use black, so this came as quite a surprise. But I loved it!
Thanks Meegan! And thanks for following 🙂
Kindred, I tell ya, kindred! lol
Aww, that’s so sweet. Sorry hon, we don’t what it is. Our hospital doesn’t tell, and we don’t want to find out- we prefer the surprise. The betting is on though!
I think once the new baby is here I’ll prefer any extra sleep to that morning thinking time!
I’m CERTAIN you will..
xx
Hi Carin! This is gorgeous! I really really like it. I find peace when I work on my art and get in the “zone”
