“Tea for two” pencil drawing in Aoife’s sketching childhood book
When I sit down to draw, I almost always grab Kirby’s sketchbook. Since he’s at home with me all day, his toys are usually right in front of me, inspiring me to draw them, or, if I’m having a bad day, making me curse as I trip over them. I have to go look for Aoife’s things, which makes them all too easy to forget.
But these books are about both of them, so today I went looking. And I’m so glad I did, because I found part of the toy tea set in her room. All set up for a tea party for two.
It melted my heart.
Aoife has always been a social little thing. She’s never been shy. And from the moment she could speak, she started inviting people into our home. You know… friends, neighbours, random strangers who just happened to walk past. The more the merrier.
And if they accepted her offer, they immediately got asked if they wanted a cup of tea.
When she wasn’t asking perfect strangers into our home, we had regular tea parties with her doll friends.
These days, she doesn’t play with the tea set much. She’s too busy playing school or playing with her friends. But her brother loves it.
And she’ll do anything for her brother.
I think it’s sweet that you have to go looking for her toys. My kids toys are still strewn all over the house. I think it’s nice that she keeps her things in their special places.
There may be a bit of nagging involved, but yeah, she’s pretty good about bringing her toys back to her room.
This is such a sweet series you’re doing of your children’s toys. Many years from now they will enjoy looking back and remembering, and I’m sure they will be happy that they had a mom like you.
Aoife sounds like a wonderful little girl and a great big sister to Kirby.
Thank you Janet! That’s so sweet!
haha! Inviting perfect strangers in for tea! I love that! What a gorgeous drawing of her tea set! Very nice!
And thanks for your sweet comment Carin! You always make me smile 🙂 Thank you for that! And I hope you see me and my art popping up in your reader much more often again!
